Senses Fail have released their extremely anticipated 7th full length album today. They’ve warned that it is a throwback to the good old days of the early-mid 2000’s and after a few listens, is proving to be correct.
It’s been an incredible year of music and I’ve discovered some beautiful new artists. It’s been a challenge to narrow this down, but here they are, my top 10 albums of 2017 followed by some very worthy honourable mentions! My top three were clear stand outs but the order was quite simple. The Menzingers released ‘After The Party’ early on last year and I always knew it was going to be hard to top. Some came very close but there was one clear stand out – Sorority Noise.
1. Sorority Noise – You’re Not As ______ As You Think
This album absolutely blew me away and I haven’t stopped listening to it since I first heard it. They’re a reasonably new band to me having only really started listening to them in 2015/16. I decided to give them another listen after I met a girl early last year who couldn’t speak highly enough of them. This album is an incredibly honest and powerful masterpiece and will be one to stick around for many years to come.
2. The Menzingers – After The Party
I thought for a long time that this was going to be the number one album of the year. It was released so early and I saw them live in Brisbane which was an absolutely incredible gig and one that I will remember for a long time to come. This album stayed with me all year and it wasn’t just this album but their previous albums that I kept going back to. It made me really appreciate their entire discography more than I ever did and I will forever have these guys in my heart!
3. The Front Bottoms – Going Grey
4. Manchester Orchestra – A Black Mile Back to the Surface
5. Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness – Zombies on Broadway
6. Turnover – Good Nature
7. The Movielife – Cities in Search of a Heart
8. Phoebe Bridgers – Stranger in the Alps
9. Seaway – Vacation
10. Sundressed – A Little Less Put Together
The Maine – Lovely Little Lonely
Julien Baker – Turn Out The Lights
Blink 182 – California (Deluxe)
Neck Deep – The Peace and the Panic
Goldfinger – The Knife
Acceptance – Colliding By Design
Oso Oso – The Yunahon Mixtape
Broadside – Paradise
Roam – Great Heights and Nosedives
Brand New – Science Fiction
